1. Magnet Test 🧲
- Pure gold is not magnetic.
- If your gold item is attracted to a strong magnet, it may be mixed with other metals.
⚠️ Note: Some fake gold is also non-magnetic, so this is only a first check.
2. Float Test (Water Density Test) 💧
- Fill a glass with water.
- Drop the gold item in it.
- Pure gold is very dense and will sink immediately.
- Fake or alloyed metals may float or sink slowly.
⚠️ Not 100% accurate, but useful for spotting lightweight fakes.
3. Acid / Vinegar Test 🧪
- Put a drop of white vinegar on the gold.
- Pure gold will not change color.
- Fake or plated gold may turn greenish, black, or lose its shine.
⚠️ Be careful – this may slightly damage fake gold plating.
